1. Install ProtectKit
ProtectKit is designed for Windows 11 and is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Using the Store provides a familiar Windows installation and update path.
For the safest installation path, download ProtectKit from its official Microsoft Store listing rather than an unknown third-party download site.
After installation, open ProtectKit from the Windows Start menu.
2. What to expect on first launch
ProtectKit brings a number of Windows security and system-management areas into one application. You do not need to change everything immediately. Start by reviewing the information ProtectKit provides.
Some information can be inspected with normal user permissions. Other security-sensitive Windows operations require administrator permission. ProtectKit can therefore show an Admin Required state when Windows prevents an operation from completing without elevation.
It normally means the requested Windows operation requires elevated permission. Decide whether you want to authorize that specific action.
3. Start with the Dashboard
The Dashboard is your starting point for understanding ProtectKit's view of the computer. It brings together important protection information and helps surface areas that may deserve attention.
Depending on the current ProtectKit version and available information, the Dashboard can summarize protection activity, items needing attention, scan information, monitoring status, investigation options, and restart requirements.
The Dashboard is a summary. When something deserves a closer look, open the corresponding ProtectKit page to see the underlying information.
4. Perform your first security review
There is no single scan that can prove a computer is completely safe. A better first review is to look at several important areas of Windows.
Review Microsoft Defender
Check Defender status and update protection information when needed. ProtectKit can provide access to supported Defender scan and security functions while complementing the protection already built into Windows.
Review Windows Firewall
Confirm the expected firewall profiles are protected. Advanced users can inspect firewall rules to understand what network access Windows and installed applications are allowing.
Review DNS and Windows hardening
Inspect important DNS and Windows security settings. ProtectKit can highlight configuration areas that may benefit from attention.
Review startup programs and services
Look at what starts with Windows and which services are installed. Unfamiliar does not mean malicious, so investigate before disabling or removing something.
Review network activity
Live Connections can help you understand which processes are communicating, the local and remote endpoints involved, and other information useful for investigation.
Review system-change and protection features
Use the available ProtectKit monitoring and verification features to examine important system and security changes. Continuous monitoring capabilities may require ProtectKit Premium.
5. Understand what ProtectKit findings mean
ProtectKit is designed to distinguish between evidence and conclusions. A warning deserves attention, but it should not automatically be treated as proof of infection or unauthorized activity.
You may encounter states such as protecting, trusted, needs attention, suspicious, unknown, inconclusive, critical, or admin required depending on the feature and evidence available.
A legitimate program can sometimes behave in an unusual way. Likewise, a malicious program can attempt to appear normal. Look at the complete evidence before taking a destructive action.
6. When ProtectKit needs administrator permission
Windows protects many system settings from ordinary applications. Actions involving security configuration, firewall changes, system repair, certain service operations, or other protected Windows areas may require elevation.
If Windows displays a User Account Control prompt, read it before approving the request. Administrator access should be granted because you understand and intend to perform the action, not simply because a prompt appeared.
7. Investigate before you remove or block
If ProtectKit surfaces an unfamiliar process, connection, startup entry, service, file, or other item, investigate it before making a permanent change.
Useful evidence can include:
- The executable or file path.
- The publisher and digital-signature status.
- The process or service name and role.
- The file hash.
- Whether the item starts automatically.
- Network connections associated with the process.
- Remote-address or domain information.
- Reputation information from optional online investigation services.
- Whether the behavior matches software you knowingly installed.
ProtectKit's investigation tools are intended to help assemble this context. No single reputation result or unusual characteristic should automatically determine the conclusion.
8. Use Maintenance deliberately
ProtectKit includes Windows maintenance, cleanup, repair, optimization, and recovery workflows. These tools can perform meaningful system operations.
Save open work before running substantial repair or maintenance operations. Do not interrupt Windows servicing or repair operations after they have begun. For significant configuration changes, maintaining backups and an appropriate recovery option is good practice.
Performance problems can have many causes. ProtectKit provides practical Windows maintenance tools, but the result depends on the underlying problem.
9. ProtectKit Free and ProtectKit Premium
ProtectKit Free is intended to be a useful product, not simply a countdown trial. It provides supported security, investigation, privacy, maintenance, and system-information capabilities without requiring a Premium subscription.
ProtectKit Premium expands the product with supported advanced functionality such as continuous monitoring, real-time alerts, expanded history, advanced investigation, advanced hardening, and other Premium protection features.
Premium is available with monthly or yearly billing. Monthly Premium is currently $3.99 per month. Review the current checkout page for the current yearly price. If a feature is Premium-only, ProtectKit should identify that rather than silently failing.

10. ProtectKit logs
ProtectKit records important application and security activity to help preserve context, provide history, and assist with troubleshooting.
Logs and exported reports can contain system details such as timestamps, paths, process information, network information, security findings, or actions performed in ProtectKit. Review them before sharing them with anyone.
11. What should I do after the first review?
If everything looks normal, you do not need to change settings simply for the sake of changing them. Security is not improved by making unnecessary modifications.
If ProtectKit identifies something that deserves attention, open the relevant page, review the evidence, understand the recommendation, and decide on the appropriate next action.
If you are unsure what a finding means, use the Help Center or contact ProtectKit Support at support@getprotectkit.com before making a destructive change.
